From then on the bodies of both the saloon and the coupé of the Tipo 105 would be produced there. Final assembly of the cars would also be carried out in Arese, although the engine and various other mechanical components were still made in the old works in Portello at that time. Production of these parts would be moved to Arese over the following years as shop floor space was completed and made available. Fortunately over the years much of the production process of the various Tipo 105 models was photographed. This is a book for the enthusiast who is interested in seeing how car components and Tipo 105 cars were produced, a model which still today is considered to have played an important role in Alfa Romeo's enviable reputation. 240 x 290 mm 320 pages Hardcover Alfa Romeo Monza - The autobiography of a celebrated 8C-2300 This Alfa Romeo Monza book is about a specific car 2211130 that was built in 1933. It was raced that year by the Hon Brian Lewis and won the arduous Mannin Moar race on the Isle of Man. The car continued to be raced until the war by John Cobb (1934), Luis Fontes (1935), Anthony Powys-Lybbe (1936-37) and Fay Taylour (1938), at venues as diverse as Vila Real (Portugal) and Phoenix Park (Ireland). Post-war, it passed through several significant collectors to arrive at its status today as one of the more important surviving Monzas, and a car with so much charisma and historic interest that it is a most worthy addition to the acclaimed Great Cars series. The 1933 season with the Hon Brian Lewis, including wins on début at Brooklands and in its next race, the Mannin Moar, plus sixth place in the Nice Grand Prix. Bought in 1934 by John Cobb (later to become notable for speed record-breaking on land and water) and raced both by him and Charlie Dodson, who finished second in the Mannin Moar. Another new owner for 1935, Luis Fontes (something of a wild man who also raced aeroplanes) took the car back to the Mannin Moar, where he finished third, and won the Limerick Grand Prix. The period with Anthony Powys-Lybbe (a fascinating character who was extensively involved with Alfa Romeos) brought more good results, especially in Ireland, with second places in the Cork Grand Prix in 1936 and 1937. More racing at Brooklands in 1938 with Fay Taylour (a champion speedway rider whose Fascist links led to her internment during the Second World War). Post-war, a succession of notable owners included Peter Hampton, the Hon. Patrick Lindsay and Hubert Fabri, all passionate collectors and men of significance. Nearly 300 period photographs, many previously unpublished, supported by a portfolio of commissioned special photography at Brooklands.

The Alfas struggled to take the fight to Ferrari, though scored regular podium positions. The highlight was a second place in the epic Targa Florio Sicilian road race, where Helmut Marko put in a stirring drive to come within seconds of victory. Marko was driving chassis 115.72.002, the most successful of the T33/TT/3 chassis, which would later have a second career on the race circuits and hillclimbs of Greece, prior to an eventual return to Europe, where it is still a frequent competitor in historic events. With such records to hand we were able to build an complete picture, free of any doubt, of the cars that participated in races during 1967 in the works team. In addition to the racing participation of the Tipo 33 we have also covered aspects of the Tipo 33 Stradale and the related Alfa Romeo OSI Scarabeo. Work on a second book covereing the 1968 racing season is currently under way and is planned for release in 2019.

The firm was responsible for some of the most important models in automotive history, frequently distinguished by daring and trend-setting styling. Tracing the history of Ghia brings to light models of particularly evocative appeal, such as the Fiat 508 Sport Spider (1934), various Alfa Romeo 6C 2500s and the 1900 SS Abarth (1954), not to mention a number of unusual Ferraris from the same decade. A decade that was of fundamental importance to Ghia that, one after the other, produced a series of opulent cars inspired by the styling canons in vogue in the United States in that period, but also styling exercises such as the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia (1955). The Sixties were no less prolific, with further classics such as the Fiat 2300 S (1960), the De Tomaso Mangusta and Pantera (1966 and 1970) and the immortal Ghibli from 1966. As was the case for other Italian coachbuilders, there followed a period of crisis that saw the Ghia marque change hands on a number of occasions before being acquired by Ford.

Zagato & C., a business that acquired great fame in just a few years among the numerous car manufacturers of the period, first of all Alfa Romeo, which entrusted the Milanese body stylist with designing and building the body of the unforgettable 6C 1750, as it did its 8C 2900 that appeared in the 30s. From then on, the famous marque became synonymous with style - not only in Italy - designing a series of masterpieces including the Lancia Aprilia Sport, the various Panoramic cars of the immediate post-war period, the Aston Martin DB4, the Alfa Romeo SZ and TZ, the Lancias Fulvia, Flavia and Flaminia and many more.
