Alfa Romeo GT – Gran Turismo, Italian Style
Presented in 2003, the Alfa Romeo GT was a refined coupé – offering space for four, timeless style, and technology rooted in tradition. It wasn’t a radical sports car, but a true Gran Turismo in the best sense: elegant, powerful, practical – and unmistakably Alfa.
Its underpinnings came from the Alfa 156, but the design was penned by Bertone – a tribute to classic Alfa proportions: the iconic Scudetto grille, slim glasshouse, flowing flanks, and a compact, muscular rear. The GT had a sculpted presence – assertive but not flashy, sporty with a sense of understatement.
Inside, the driver was greeted by a refined cockpit with a clear Alfa identity: low-slung seats, a sporty steering wheel, and classic round dials. Materials like leather and aluminum added flair, while the usable rear seats made the GT a stylish companion for travel.
Engine options ranged from the agile 1.8 TS to the torquey 1.9 JTDm diesel, but the crown jewel was the 3.2 V6 “Busso” with 240 hp. Paired with a slick 6-speed manual and a deep exhaust note, the GT V6 became an emotional, characterful alternative to the hot-hatch mainstream. The chassis was tuned for sporty comfort, and the steering was sharp – a coupé made for both cruising and cornering.
Despite its qualities, the GT remained a niche model. Built until 2010, it was spared major facelifts – which only adds to its appeal today: authentic, clean, and distinctive.
