Alfa Romeo MiTo – Compact, but Full of Character
With the MiTo, introduced in 2008, Alfa Romeo entered new territory: a small car with premium ambitions, a sporty soul, and signature Alfa design. The name said it all – a blend of Milano (Mi) and Torino (To): design and engineering united. But most of all, the MiTo was one thing: an Alfa in pocket format – cheeky, agile, and emotional.
Visually, the MiTo stood out from the crowd. The bold Scudetto grille, almond-shaped headlights with LED eyeliner, muscular side lines and rounded rear with inset taillights – clearly inspired by the Alfa 8C Competizione – made it instantly recognisable. A compact car with coupé flair – and it pulled it off convincingly.
Inside, the MiTo featured a sporty and high-quality cabin: low-mounted seats, textured surfaces, round instruments, and optional carbon, aluminium or leather accents. The innovative “DNA” system – Dynamic, Normal, All Weather – allowed the driver to adjust steering, throttle response and ESP settings at the push of a button. Unusual for this class – and typically Alfa.
Under the hood, the MiTo offered a broad range: from the frugal 1.3 JTDm diesel, to the popular MultiAir turbo petrols, up to the MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde (Qv) with 170 hp. The latter was the sharpest version – light, fierce, precise. But even the smaller engines delivered a true Alfa feeling: direct handling, tight suspension, and a lively character.
Built until 2018, the MiTo was never a mass-market hit – but always a favourite among Alfisti. With customisation options, special editions, and bold colours, it expressed personality in a compact package.
Today, the MiTo is a modern classic: compact, stylish, and full of emotion. Those who drive it know: character isn't measured in centimetres – but in soul.
