Alfa Romeo Giulietta – Elegance in the Compact Class
When Alfa Romeo revived the Giulietta name in 2010, it was more than nostalgia. It was an effort to bring classic values into the modern era: style, sportiness, driving pleasure – all in a compact, everyday-friendly format. The Type 940 Giulietta was designed to make a statement in the compact segment – and it succeeded.
The design was unmistakably Alfa: the bold front with its large Scudetto grille, a gracefully contoured side line, and a coupé-like rear with hidden door handles – sporty but not flashy. Inside, Italian minimalism ruled: round instruments, aluminium accents, a driver-focused cockpit – elegant yet functional. Build quality was solid, materials premium – Alfa had firmly entered the premium class.
Technically, the Giulietta debuted the new Compact platform, combining lightweight construction with high rigidity. The suspension was taut and precise, yet comfortable enough for everyday use. Add to that the DNA system, adjusting steering, throttle and ESP with a single switch – transforming the car from cruiser to corner-hunter in seconds.
The engine range was broad: from the efficient 1.4 Turbo MultiAir to the powerful 2.0 JTDm diesels – but the heart of the lineup was the Quadrifoglio Verde: a 1.75-litre turbo engine with 240 hp, dual-clutch transmission and launch control – a true hot hatch, unfiltered and emotional.
The Giulietta remained in production until 2020, a surprisingly long run – a testament to its popularity. Facelifts kept it fresh, but the character stayed the same: stylish, sporty, unmistakably Alfa.
Today, the Giulietta 940 is a modern classic with understatement. Those who drive it seek more than just transport – they seek emotion, form and individuality. Just like a Giulietta – even in the present.
