Alfa Romeo Giulia – The Sports Sedan with Character
When the Alfa Romeo Giulia was introduced in 1962, it caused a stir: a four-door family sedan with the aerodynamics of a sports car – angular in shape, yet far ahead of its time. While others were still building heavy notchbacks, Alfa presented a car that could reach 160 km/h on the highway and felt at home on twisting roads.
The Giulia was the first sedan with a wind tunnel-shaped body. Its distinctive boxy silhouette wasn’t just bold – it was aerodynamically efficient, with a drag coefficient of 0.34 that was revolutionary for the 1960s. But the exterior was only the beginning.
Beneath the sheet metal beat the legendary twin-cam four-cylinder, ranging from 1.3 to 1.6 liters, lightweight, rev-happy, and full of Alfa DNA. Paired with a five-speed gearbox, four-wheel disc brakes, and rear-wheel drive, the Giulia became the quintessential sport sedan – fast, agile, and surprisingly dynamic to drive. Versions like the Giulia Super or Ti Super delivered performance well above their class.
Though built for everyday use, the Giulia carried a strong motorsport spirit: it excelled in rally stages and circuit racing alike. Police forces, private drivers, and racing teams all valued its blend of durability, power, and personality.
The Giulia remained in production until 1977, continuously refined but never compromised in its core principles. It became the backbone of the brand during one of Alfa’s most vibrant eras.
Today, the Giulia sedan is a sought-after classic – authentic, engaging, and iconic in its angular form. To drive it is to discover how exciting everyday life can be – when it happens in Italian.
